F my life (again)…

So…I haven’t been to active on here lately…let me explain why:

About 7 years ago, I had a real bad freak injury while playing ball hockey.  Without going into too many details, the result was a dislocated shoulder, broken humerus (nothing humorous about it …HEYO!) and worst of all, nerve damage (which still bugs me to this day).  The shoulder would eventually heal, after months of physiotherapy, pain medication, nerve medication, etc.  I have probably 90% range of motion back in that shoulder and although I still can’t sleep on that side for long periods of time, and still get slight pins and needles throughout my arm/fingers for the most part I was back to functioning at close to 100%.  It took about a year, but I was able to play hockey & soccer again.

Fast forward to last Thursday.

I was playing hockey, in the same arena, about 10 feet away from the spot of the last injury.  I took a tumble on my OTHER shoulder (my good arm this time), and right away I knew it didn’t feel good.  I came off holding my arm, and although I couldn’t finish the game, I thought I’d be able to play again in the next couple of days.  By the time I got home, the range of motion in my shoulder had gotten worse, but I was able to sleep without any pain medication, and still thought I’d be good to go in a few days.

When I woke up I could’t move my shoulder at all, and the pain was worse.  I decided to go to the hospital to check it out.  After a couple examinations and an X-Ray, the Dr. gave me the news….”TORN LABRUM”.

My shoulder is now in a sling.  I have an appointment in 3 weeks with a specialist to see how bad the damage is, and I can hopefully start physiotherapy in 2 weeks.  I’ve been through this before, so it’s not too bad….BUT to make matters worse – I leave for the U.K in 3 days for a work trip.  Now i’ll be lugging a suitcase around London with one arm, and I’m sure half of my meetings will be spent explaining what happened and what a Labrum is.

*Side Note* If any of you personal finance bloggers/peeps are in London, and want to grab a beer next week – let me know (I can still hold a pint with my left hand)!

Needless to say, at the tender age of 35, and with no shoulders left to destory I’ve officially retired from ball hockey (at least my wife will be happy).

Anyways, just wanted to give a quick update.  I’ll be back with a monthly update when I am back from visiting the Queen!
